Nilda Arias/Sweet House
Chef
Nilda says she was dragged kicking and screaming
into the confectionary world and before she was ever
knee deep into chocolate, cake batter and frosting
she was enjoyed a successful career in radio
broadcasting.
She credits her mom a self proclaimed
“Chocoholic” for unknowingly guiding her in the
right direction. Her mom had her own business for a
few years making chocolates, caramel apples and
other sweet treats. When the demands of running a
business became too much to do alone she enlisted
Nilda’s help and that’s where her love of pastry
began. However it was not an instant attraction, as
she had to quit her dream radio job to help out.
That left her going through the motions and just
doing whatever had to be done to make sure her mom’s
business was running smoothly and figured she’d go
back into radio once it wasn’t so busy. She helped
her mom for over 3 years and once that endeavor came
to an end she decided not to go back to radio and
what once was a chore became a true life passion.
Looking to learn more she enrolled in the pastry
program at the College of Southern Nevada. It was
there that she learned techniques from world
renowned pastry chefs and industry experts who
encouraged and helped further develop her love of
pastry.
Nilda believes the learning never stops so
throughout the years she’s taken various classes
with some of the biggest who’s who in the pastry
world. It’s that experience and knowledge that has
helped her successfully run her private special
order pastry business called Cake Chicas.
She’s had the pleasure of making treats for local
businesses and organizations like The Lied Discovery
Children’s Museum, Opportunity Village, Sunrise
Children’s Hospital Foundation.
In early 2012 she opened a cake and candy supply business called Sweet House and most recently had the honor of providing the cast of Planet Hollywood’s PeepShow with special treats to commemorate their 3rd anniversary. She also works full time as a pastry cook at a major strip hotel and casino. A busy schedule indeed but Nilda says that she truly can't imagine doing anything else and that having found her true passion makes all the hard work and sacrifice worth it.
The event benefits one of the most amazing organizations in the world. will receive the net proceeds for this amazing chocolate and pastry show.
